My daughter, granddaughter and I recently traveled to Independence, KS to visit my Mom and Grandma for Christmas. While there, a photographer friend of my Mom's graciously agreed to photograph 5 generations of my family!

I am so excited to introduce my first grandchild (aka Sweet Little Princess)...Miss Railea Peyton. Railea was born on Sunday evening in Mayfield, and is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen (next to her mama, of course!). I could be slightly biased, I suppose, but she certainly is beautiful. I've yet to make it home to my main computer to edit her first images, but couldn't wait to share at least one. You'll definitely be seeing LOTS of this little cutie! A prouder Nana there never was :-)

Five Minute Maternity Session

Amanda has had a difficult pregnancy. She's been sick practically the whole time - in and out of the hospital several times in the past 2 weeks. Last week she was hospitalized again and will have to stay until the baby comes. We won't get to do a formal maternity session, so we improvised! Using her bed sheet and window light, we did a very quick shoot right there in her hospital room! I think she's beautiful. Of course, I'm a bit partial since this is MY grandchild we're awaiting!!

By now I know we are all sick to death of ice, snow, and cold weather! I hope that if you're reading this, it means your power has been restored and that your family is doing well. I finally got to sleep in my own bed just last night. Telephone service hasn't been restored, but I'm so grateful to have power again AND nice warm temperatures! It will take some time, but eventually life will get back to normal for us all.

This new year has been quite challenging for many of us on various levels. I find solice at times by getting lost photography; finding beauty and interest in ordinary things. It's not "just a job" at all - it's something that gives me great pleasure. Before I had to abandon my house 2 weeks ago, I bundled up and went outside in search of the beautiful images I knew were present amongst all of the destruction brought by the ice storm. I hope you can enjoy them too!

The search for “America’s Cutest Kid” has begun with terrific success across the U.S. Cypress Springs Photography is going to show the rest of the country what beautiful kiddos we have right here in Western Kentucky!!! I’ve been spending every spare minute organizing my part in the Charity Model Search (you can read the original post here); everything is coming together quite nicely. We’ll begin shooting our “model” mini sessions on Saturday, January 31st at the Calloway County Library Annex in Murray. We will also be there on February 14th. We'd done mom's maternity pictures in November, and were anticipating Taylor's arrival so that we could capture some newborn images while she was still tiny and squishy. We were delayed due to the holidays and crazy schedules, but today I finally got to spend a few hours getting to know the newest member of Terri & Justin's family. A Winning Christmas Image!

The image below is special to me for a couple of reasons; first and foremost because it's of my daughter and future grandchild (and her 21 year old teddy bear!). My daughter came by to make images for use in her baby shower invitations. While we were doing that, I decided to make an image to enter into a photography contest with entries from all over the US. The winners were announcd today, and I'm just thrilled to share the news that we won 2nd place!!!

The winning images receive tons of cool prizes, including a cool new website design. So you'll be seeing lots of changes in the way Cypress Springs Photography looks and feels in the near future. What a cool Christmas present!

Carmen is one of my favorite teens. She's a delightful young lady who is incredibly intelligent and, in my opinion, very mature for her age. What's more...she doesn't really suspect how truly beautiful she is!

Carmen told me during her session last week that she's taking photography-related classes. I'm thrilled and I think we may hang out a bit in the future (I'm looking forward to it!). So, this one's for you, Carmen. And may I just say...WOW!

Well, I made it home from Nashville very late last night. I met so many wonderful, talented photographers there and learned SO much; what an awesome opportunity!! I'm thrilled to bring fresh ideas and new skills to you! CSP will be under going many changes in the coming weeks and months; I'm SO excited! Here's just one of the amazing images I was able to capture. This is Jocelyne, one of our hosts - isn't she gorgeous?

There are many more images I have to share with you in the next few days, so check back for those! We attended several classes and captured tons of beautiful images. We were even surprised by an impromptu wedding shoot with a couple who had just been married and were staying at the same hotel!!

New Photographer friends

I cannot say enough about how awesome this experience has been. In addition to all of the valuable information I've gained here in Nashville this week, the new friendships and acquaintances I have made are simply terrific. Yesterday, after several workshops, the whole gang headed outside the hotel for a group shot. WOW, imagine posing this many folks! Wonderful people and great fun...I LOVE my "job"!

I'm sitting in a hotel in Nashville on lunch break, with my mind reeling. I've met so many wonderful folks here in the past 3 days who are amazing photographers. The comraderie and information sharing is just phenomenal! I am so excited about what I'll be bringing home to my clients and just cannot wait to apply what I'm learning. We're having a total blast!

I'm very excited as I will be in the company of some of the most successful photographers in the US and Canada (and perhaps other countries)! The Inferno promises to be a week of shooting, learning, and networking with tons of very talented folks and I plan to bring lots of new ideas back home to my customers! Nope, it's not a Mogwai! This little girl is Ashley, a tiny Yorkie mix who visited the Humane Society of Calloway County's "Bark in the Park" during this year's Freedom Fest. Is this not just one of THE cutest little faces you've ever seen? We met SO many sweet puppies, both small and large, this year. It wasn't an easy choice, but Ashley wins "Photographer's Pick" for the day.

Froggy Fest Concert

"What a beautiful night"...it's not only the title to one of Chad Mullins' songs, it describes our experience at the Froggy Fest concert last night! The concert was AWESOME; we had a blast! My Dad, "Big Daddy" Norsworthy, who was a country music guitarist for 50 years, passed away 2 years ago on July 5th. I thought of him often during the concert yesterday. These images are dedicated to him.

Froggyland Idol: Chad Mullins

Anyone who listens to 103.7 FM radio station lately has heard of Chad Mullins, the station’s 2008 "Froggyland Idol" talent contest winner and his rockin' song "Stomp." This week we met Chad and his family for a photo session; we were asked to create images for Chad's autograph signing session during Murray's Freedom Fest this weekend. We had a blast, Chad's an awesome guy and his family is just terrific!

Chad is opening the Freedom Fest concert on Saturday night AND will be signing autographs at Woodcrafters during the day. You definitely want to stop by to meet him and get an autographed photo. And if you haven't gotten your tickets for the concert yet, get goin'! This year's concert will be OFF THE CHARTS!

Lost but Loved Animal Rescue hosted a "Paws in the Park" event today to raise funds for a dog park in Murray. We were asked to come by and take some pet photos for the event and were glad to accept! While we saw plenty of good looking pooches through out the day, this little pup wins the "Photographer's Favorite" designation. Really..... HOW CUTE!!! Humane Society of Calloway County Pet Portrait Event!

Yes, it's time to schedule those appointments!!! CSP will be holding another Pet Portrait Event on June 20th & 21st at the Library Annex in Murray, KY to benefit the Humane Society of Calloway County. Bring your favorite furry friends to have their portrait made! We're excited, this event promises to be our best yet!

Here's the scoop (this is awesome!): For a $25 donation to the HSCC, have your pet's portrait made and receive 1 (one) complimentary 5x7 from your photo session. You'll also receive a temporary online photo album of your shoot to show all of your friends and order additional prints if you choose. Oh but there's more!!! Everyone who makes the $25 donation will also be entered into a drawing for a mounted 11x14 portrait from your photo session! And...this is SO cool!...the winning portrait will be beautifully matted and framed by The Frame Village in Murray ($55 value). That's a total gift of $90 value! Last Saturday, I was entertained for more than an hour by a bumble bee who's taken up residence at my back door. This is my favorite shot from our impromtu session. Spring Baby Contest

I intended to get this post up much earlier than this evening, but my Internet connection has been out almost ALL weekend - bummer! So here's the scoop on the Spring Baby Contest. Ready? Little ones photographed between now and June 1st will be eligible to enter a Spring Baby photo contest hosted here on the CSP Blog! I'm excited!! Photos of the contestants will be posted here by June 7th and voting will be open until June 19th. On June 21st (the first day of summer), I'll announce the winner, who will receive their mommy and daddy's choice of a $50 print credit OR a free location session (also a $50 value - does not include prints).

Contest Rules: Schedule a photo session between now and June 1st of your little one. We'll have a category for babies 0 - 2 yr, and a separate category for 2 - 5 yr olds! Regular session fees apply and must be paid in full to enter the contest.
